Nobody should be surprised. The revenue pressure was always going to land somewhere, and ads are where internet-scale products land when subscriptions alone don't close the gap. What is worth being precise about is what this means for the category claim. The 'aligned AI assistant' framing has a specific implication: that the model's outputs are oriented toward the user.
