Trump posted this morning that if Iran rejects the deal, bombing resumes "at a much higher level and intensity." Hours earlier, Marco Rubio was out there saying the operation was over. Now Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner are apparently running nuclear negotiations through Pakistan on a one-page memo. One page. For a war.

This is what unchecked executive war power looks like in practice. No AUMF. No congressional vote. No oversight. The administration's position shifted multiple times in 24 hours and the story moving markets right now is whether Jared Kushner can get Iran to agree to a preliminary framework before the next post goes live. Meanwhile Iran has 400-plus kilograms of uranium enriched to near weapons-grade sitting there, and the reporting says Washington isn't even raising it yet in these talks.

Congress could demand an authorization vote. Congress could invoke the War Powers Act. Congress has done none of this. Not Democrats, not Republicans, not the handful of members who've made noise about it. The precedent being set right now is that the president can start, pause, escalate, and negotiate a war entirely through press releases and family members. That's not a bug in the system. That's the system working exactly as the people in power want it to work.
