Courts keep ruling his tariffs illegal and he just keeps appealing

The Court of International Trade ruled Thursday that Trump's 10% blanket tariffs on most imports are invalid and "unauthorized by law." This is not the first time. Courts keep saying the same thing. The administration keeps finding a new statute to misread and a new court to appeal to.

Here's the part that should make you furious. Since Trump took office, US manufacturing employment has declined by 82,000 jobs. Eighty-two thousand. The guy who promised to bring manufacturing back has presided over the worst manufacturing job loss in a generation. And his response to a federal court calling his tariffs illegal is to ask a different court. Rep. John Larson put it plainly: the administration has already taken "nearly $2,000" from the average household. That's not a trade policy. That's a shakedown that doesn't even work.

Two small businesses — Basic Fun!, a Florida toy company, and Burlap & Barrel, a New York spice importer — sued and won. Small companies with more spine than most of Congress. The injunction only covers them. Everyone else keeps paying. The administration will appeal. The tariffs were already estimated to have collected $166 billion under the prior illegal package. They collect the money, lose in court, and appeal. That's the plan.
